Lexi's Story

Hello! My name is Alexis (Lexi) Miller and I am an intern for the Self Knowledge Symposium Foundation. I currently attend East Carolina University and am studying Public Health with a concentration in Community Health. I began working with the SKSF in the summer of 2020 after I was sent home from college because of the pandemic.

I was originally supposed to work for this amazing organization for my summer break, however I was presented with an outstanding opportunity to become an intern, mainly working on the Educating Emily University (Go EEU!) team. I have worked very closely with Headmistress Melissa Hawks and Miss Emily herself.

The love, joy, and encouragement from this group is nothing less than astonishing! I honestly believe, even in the short time that I have been with the Foundation, I have grown spiritually and am continuing to do so. It was so meaningful for me to attend the 2021 Bulldogs Awards Ceremony and see high school senior Shelton Hankins receive the Coach Campbell Award. I was moved by the humble gratitude that he and his mother showed the SKS Foundation for the investment they are making in the lives of the young men at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High.

I am also extremely excited to accept an extension on my internship! This gives me another amazing opportunity to work with this remarkable organization and learn for even longer! Even more exciting, the Foundation is growing to include another internship opportunity for a fellow college student! This fall, I will get to work with a new intern that will be added to the team to assist in web development and system administration. The Self Knowledge Symposium Foundation has been nothing less than a blessing to me and so many others.
